The 2018 Insignia is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard sources this year include Stags Leap District, Oak Knoll District, Rutherford, South Napa Valley, and St. Helena.

It was aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, powerful notes of blackcurrant cordial, stewed black plums and boysenberries, plus hints of cedar chest, graphite, menthol and wet slate with a fragrant waft of clove oil. The medium to full-bodied palate already demonstrates remarkable balance at this youthful stage, featuring a firm backbone of fine-grained tannins and bold freshness to support the tightly wound, crunchy black fruits, finishing long and spicy.

This walled vineyard or "clos" once belonged to the monks of Citeaux Abbey. This plot is located in the middle of the Clos de Vougeot (on the Vosne-Romanée side). The soil in the upper part of the clos is a mix of clay and brown gravel soil, and the middle part is also very stony the surface. In the lower part of the vineyard, the soil gets deeper and becomes increasingly rich in clay, which gives firmer structure to the wines. With a beautiful dark garnet color, the first nose reveals intense aromas of roses, raspberries and blackberries associated with toasted notes. On the palate, the freshness attack reveals a powerful, velvety wine with very good persistence!

The Alexander Valley consists of a broad valley floor bisected by the Russian River. It is surrounded by hills that block the coastal fog, keeping the area warmer than most of its neighbors. This climate, combined with well-drained, gravelly soil, allows the region to produce some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in all of California. Plum red in color with aromas of blackberry, toasted spices, and vanilla. The palate is rich, elegant and beautifully structured with layers of black fruit and freshly roasted coffee, finishing with round and supple tannins
